Frequently Asked Questions
Booking & Pricing
What does the booking process look like?
Most of our tours are private and can be customized, which is why we prefer direct communication with our clients from the very beginning. We don’t use automated booking forms. Instead, we invite you to send us an email with details about the tour you are interested in, your preferred dates, the size of your group, and your cycling experience. Once we have agreed on a tour, we will send you a reservation form to be completed by every member of the group. Based on this information, we will prepare the contract.
You can also reach us on WhatsApp or by phone, but we prefer to have all important details in writing, so we’ll confirm them by email.
How do I choose the right tour?
We divide our tours into two categories: recreational and active. Recreational tours are suited to anyone with a moderate level of fitness, while active tours are designed for avid cyclists who ride a gravel or road bike at home and cycle regularly. In addition, each tour page on our website includes detailed statistics, such as total and daily distance, total and daily elevation gain, and a daily elevation profile, so you can get a clear idea of the difficulty. You can also rent an e-bike, which makes the rides much easier.
If you have any doubts about whether a tour is right for you, you can always discuss it with a member of our team.
Is there a minimum age to join one of your tours?
The minimum age to book a tour independently is 18. Children can join a tour with a parent or parents, provided they are at least 1.50 m tall and can ride a bicycle with 28" wheels.
For exceptions, please discuss your situation with our tour planners during the booking process, and we will see whether alternatives can be found based on the child’s fitness level and the bicycles available to rent.
Accommodation & Meals
What type of accommodation will we be staying in?
Accommodation is provided in double or single rooms with private bathrooms. In villages, we choose the best cozy guesthouses we can find, some with a touch of luxury, so that you can experience a Transylvanian village without compromising on comfort. In cities, we normally choose four- or five-star hotels. You can find the accommodation for each day on the tour page. If any changes to the listed accommodation become necessary, we will inform you during the booking process, and we will always try to replace it with a similar or higher standard of accommodation so that the trip experience stays the same.
A single occupancy supplement applies to single rooms.
Do you accommodate vegetarians or other dietary restrictions?
Yes, we can accommodate vegetarians, vegans, and guests with other dietary restrictions or allergies. Please let us know about these during the booking process, and we will notify all accommodations and any lunch venues that do not offer an à la carte menu.
Bikes & Gear
Can I bring my own bicycle?
Yes, we encourage our clients to bring their own bicycles, as no bicycle fits a rider better than their own. We will transfer the bike box from the airport to the hotel and back, and store it during the tour, at no extra cost.
What other gear and accessories are included in the tour price?
We will take care of all the gear and accessories you need, so the only things you have to bring are your personal items. In addition to the bicycle, we provide a helmet, water bottles, a pump, and tools. The only thing we cannot provide for everyone is a bike computer for supported or self-guided tours. Please discuss alternatives with our team.
Can I bring my own pedals, saddle, or helmet?
Many clients, especially those on active tours, prefer to bring their own pedals, saddle, or helmet. We are happy to mount the pedals and saddle on our bikes, but please let us know in advance. You will most likely also be asked about this in an email a couple of weeks before the tour starts.
Do you offer e-bikes?
We do not own e-bikes ourselves, but we rent them from our partner in Sibiu for around €50 per bike per day. Please note that road and gravel e-bikes are not currently available from them.
Trip Planning
Will someone pick me up at the airport, and are transfers included in the tour price?
Airport transfer on arrival is included for tours where the accommodation for day 0 is included, provided you arrive on that exact day. Transfer on departure is always included provided you leave on the last day of the tour. If you arrive or depart on different days, our team will advise you on the best ways to travel between the airport and your hotel.
Where should I stay the night before and after my tour?
For some of our tours, accommodation for the night before the tour starts (day 0) is included. For the others, please ask our team for recommendations in Sibiu or Cluj-Napoca.
During the Trip
What are the road conditions on the routes we will be riding?
The vast majority of our rides are on asphalt, whose quality can vary from very good to somewhat poorer in some remote regions. On some tours, we may ride short sections on unpaved roads, and you will find this information on each tour’s page.
What is the traffic like on the roads we will be riding?
We always try to use roads with low traffic on our tours. For some very short distances, we might ride on roads with medium traffic, but never high, and our guides will inform you in advance of these sections.
Can we shorten or extend the rides on some days?
Yes, since our tours are private, we can always adjust the route to make it shorter or longer. If some members of the group only want to shorten a day, they can always hop into the support van for some sections.
Will I receive navigation tools for my cycling trip?
We recommend that guests bring their own bike computer on supported or self-guided tours, or install a navigation app on their phone. Please ask our team about the app we recommend. On supported tours, we will try to offer one of our bike computers if needed, but this does not apply to self-guided tours.
Are laundry facilities available during the tour?
On the Saxon Transylvania tour (and all other tours where we stop in Viscri), very good laundry facilities are available on the day in the middle of the tour. For any other day, please ask our team in advance and they will do their best to find a solution.
What kind of support vehicle do you provide?
On most of our tours, the support vehicle is an 8+1 van with plenty of room for luggage. In exceptional cases, an SUV may be used for very small groups of two or three people.
Self-Guided Tours
Do you offer self-guided tours?
To offer a complete experience even on a self-guided tour, we currently offer only the Saxon Transylvania tour in this format. The routes are easy to follow, and all the hosts at the guesthouses speak good English. For our other tours or for custom tours, please contact us.
Is luggage transfer included in a self-guided tour?
No, luggage transfer is not included on self-guided tours. You will need to carry the things you need during the tour in the panniers we provide or in your own panniers. However, we can store the rest of your luggage, which you will not need during the tour, and return it to you on the last day of the tour at no extra cost.
If you need day-by-day luggage transfer, please opt for a supported tour.
What happens if my bike breaks down during the tour?
On self-guided tours, we ask participants to be able to fix punctures, dropped chains, and minor bike adjustments themselves. In the event of a serious mechanical problem, please contact the guide in charge of your tour, who will come to help you within a few hours, depending on how far you are from Sibiu.
Should I pack my own first aid kit, or is one provided?
We will provide a first aid kit in case you do not bring your own.
Who can I contact in case of an emergency?
For every self-guided tour, there will be a guide in charge of your group whom you can contact in case of an emergency.
